NCR POS: Setting Up Multi-Pack and Multi-Can Discounts

This article outlines how to set up Multi-Pack and Multi-Can discounts when you have a NCR point of sale system

❗Stop: To participate in these offers;

  1. You will need access to the Radiant Site Manager (RSM) in your Radiant Site Controller.

    • This is the default Pricebook software installed on the Radiant Site Controller.

  2. If you use back-office software to set discounts, contact your back-office provider for assistance.

Step-by-Step Process  

  1. Confirm with your Altria/RJR representative that your store(s) qualify for discounts

2. Once confirmed that your store qualifies, open your Radiant Site Manager and enter your pin when prompted

  • Once entered, you'll be presented with the screen below:

3. Select the "Configuration" folder, and once expanded, click "Merchandise."

  • Do not select the "Merchandise" folder above the Configuration folder.

4. Once selected, you'll see a number of different configurations

  • Select the "Retail Item Group Setup," as shown below.

5. Add tobacco products that are eligible for multi-pack and multi-can discounts into the group

  • Click on "Add Item" to begin, as shown below.

6. Once your tobacco items have been added, the list will populate, as shown below

7. After you have configured your Retail Item Group Setup, select "Special Setup" under the Merchandise folder to begin configuring the multi-pack or multi-can discounts

  • Once accessed, select "Add Special."

8. You will be presented with three tabs: General Options, Qualifiers, and Date/Time Restriction, as seen below:

  • General Options (seen in the above screen): You will add the name of the discount and set the maximum per transaction.

    • For maximum per transaction, this will be the total amount of multi-packs or multi-cans that will qualify for a discount.

❇️ Example: If a customer purchases five total multi-pack discounts, all five bundles of two (or three) will qualify for a discount.

  • If they purchase six, the sixth bundle will not qualify for the discounted price.

    • Why? Because the cap is five.

9. Once you've completed configuring the "General Options" tab, select the "Qualifiers" tab

  • Then select "Add Qualifier" as seen below:

💡 Tip: The following configuration represents most multi-pack configurations.

  • Please use the guidelines below to correctly set up this section.

10. Follow the instructions below to help you fill out the, “Requirements and Discount” section

  • Retail Item Group: Select the group or product that you have aggregated for Multipack promotions.

  • In this case, we created a group for Marlboro

    • Restrict Requirement By: Quantity

    • Minimum Quantity: 2 (or 3 if you've elected to offer 3-pack discounts)

    • Type: Preset Amount

    • Amount: Depends on your elected price

      • If it’s bought (2) for $2.50 it would be price of products (Say $10) – discount ($2.50). Meaning the elected price would be $7.50.

        • If it’s buy (3) get $5.00 it would be 5

  • Reduces Tax: No

11. Once completed, you will save the configuration and select the "Date/Time Restriction", as seen below:

💡 Tip: In the section above, if you would like to start offering discounts immediately, select "Applicable Immediately."

  • If not, you can choose "Date Selection" to configure when you would like to start offering the discounts.

    • Stores only say, “Applicable Immediately” if the offer is already live.

12. Select "Update Terminals" on the left sidebar menu

  • To start the update, click "Perform Full Update."

13. Once the terminal has been updated, if you have selected "Applicable immediately," your discounts are ready to offer!

  • Otherwise, they will be ready on the date you selected.


Frequently Asked Questions   

What if I’m still having trouble with my setup?

  • You will need to contact NCR, as their technical team can help with more complex situations.

What happens if I don’t confirm discounts with my tobacco representatives?

  • The tobacco company will refuse to pay your store for any discounts you offer customers. 

  • Or for any scan data your store provides.

Why do I need to verify if discounts are working properly?

  • If you don’t and your discounts aren’t working, you could lose money from brands. 

Why do UPCS need to be 12 digits?

  • If UPCS is 11 or 13 digits, then the discounts won't work at the register.

Why do Altria and RJR get to decide what discounts are offered to me?   

  • Because the brand(s) are funding offers they get to decide which store(s) qualify for offers.   

  • We’ve heard that sometimes the state your store(s) are, the data you provide brands, where you place the products in your store, and your distribution of their products can influence their decisions.
