What is a Scan Rebate Program?

Scan rebate programs enable you to receive rebate payments and increase revenue by scanning products you already sell. Our Sync software will automatically capture your scan data and submit weekly reports on your behalf. Rebate payments come to you on a monthly basis from tobacco companies or directly to your Skupos dashboard from brands. Examples of these programs include, but are not limited to, Altria Digital Trade Program, RMSC Retail Scan Data Program, ITG Scan Data Reporting Program, and PepsiCo Scan Data Reporting Program.

In order to participate in these scan data programs, you must be scanning your items at the register. Ensuring that your store’s price book has every item uploaded with the correct UPC-A format (12-digit) and that your store is scanning every item at every transaction will guarantee that you earn as much as possible from scan data. Details on how to set yourself up for success can be found below.

Getting Started

Step 1: Confirm that you have all products uploaded into your inventory.

  • This can be done directly in your point-of-sale (POS) system or through a back-office software (BOS) provider. Please contact your POS or BOS vendor for assistance.

  • For Verifone, Gilbarco, and NCR point-of-sale systems, UPCs need to uploaded into the “PLU” field.

  • For Clover point-of-sale systems, UPCs need to be uploaded into the “Product Code” field.

Step 2: Ensure products are uploaded in the UPC-A (12-digit) format and have a description that is relevant to the assigned UPC.

  • Scan Data reports are composed of products in the UPC-A (12-digit) format. Proper format is necessary for accurate payments and reimbursements.

    • Example:

      • UPC-A: 028200003683

      • Description: MARL RED LABEL BOX

  • Retailers using a Clover point-of-sale system should take extra note of this step because Clovers often utilize the UPC-E (8-digit) format.

Step 3: Ensure all non-fuel products are labeled with a Product Code between 400 and 599.

  • This step only applies to those using a Verifone, Gilbarco, or NCR point-of-sales system.

  • Engage discounts will not work if you do not have a Product Code within the 400-599 range.

Step 4: Check that your scanner is connected to your point-of-sale system. Scan all in-store products at the register to ensure you get paid for your scan data!
